Choosing an MPPT solar charge controller

Three checks to turn a product comparison into a useful project enquiry.

  1. Check the PV voltage limit

Review maximum PV voltage and the operating range against the proposed array. A designer should account for site conditions when checking solar string voltage.

  2. Match battery charging requirements

Check supported battery voltage, charging current and charge settings. Confirm the controller can meet the exact battery's charging requirements.

  3. Place it in the full system

A charge controller manages solar charging; it does not replace an AC inverter. Review the inverter, battery and protection requirements as part of the system design.
